GPA Calculation System in Bangladesh
Bangladesh uses a Grade Point Average (GPA) system on a 0.00 – 5.00 scale for SSC (Secondary School Certificate) and HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) examinations. The grading system was introduced to reflect subject-wise performance through letter grades and corresponding grade points, replacing the old divisional marking system.
The final GPA is calculated by averaging the grade points of all compulsory subjects. An optional subject provides a bonus: if its grade point exceeds 2.00, the surplus (up to 3.00 maximum bonus) is added to the total before dividing.

- If any subject receives an F (0–32 marks), the result is Fail and GPA is 0.00.
- Sum all compulsory subject grade points.
- If the optional subject grade point is greater than 2.00, add
(grade point – 2.00)as a bonus. - Divide the total by the number of compulsory subjects.
- The maximum possible GPA is 5.00.
